Some of my unbelieving acquaintances in the scientific world think that “science” is infallible. Those same friends consider God Almighty to be fallible. As a Christian, I see it in the exact opposite manner: God is infallible, science is fallible.
Recently, a study conducted to validate 15 years of scientific findings using MRI technology concluded that they found 70% of the readings to have false positives. They were expecting no more than 5% of them to have false positives. These significant findings suggest that MRI scans on the brain, such as the ones often cited by workers in the addiction field, are not reliable and could be entirely invalid.
For me personally, this hits home since many of my friends in the addiction field used to cite these studies as “conclusive, scientific evidence that cannot be refuted!” An article by Science Alert I read today suggests otherwise stating this:
There could be a very serious problem with the past 15 years of research into human brain activity, with a new study suggesting that a bug in fMRI software could invalidate the results of some 40,000 papers.
That’s massive, because functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is one of the best tools we have to measure brain activity, and if it’s flawed, it means all those conclusions about what our brains look like during things like exercise, gaming, love, and drug addiction are wrong.
My personal summation of this article and the original source of the research study I read and cited above simply remind me that we can only trust God 100%. His Word is true and enables us to interpret life meaningfully and accurately. Anything that mankind does must be checked, re-checked, and checked again for validation purposes. Real science is always able to be replicated which is why the ‘theory of evolution’ will never move beyond the theory stage – it is not able to be replicated. Believing in evolution is a act of faith – but it is faith not based in real science. It takes more faith to trust evolution is true than God is real.
I will even go as far to say that science and faith in God’s Word are NOT incompatible. Science must bend the knee in surrender to Christ and the two are able to agree when science is conducted accurately.
In closing, Friends, be skeptical of man-made theories and findings! And be trusting of God’s infallible Word!
