I hate the worldly concepts about “addiction” that tell people that they cannot ever overcome their addiction because it is a supposed “lifelong illness with no cure.” It’s a supposed “disease” that they must cope with for the remainder of their lives.
What’s true about in this worldly approach to “addiction” is that there is NO HOPE apart from Christ and the world cannot offer Christ! The world only offers COPE with your problem since they have no real hope for a cure.
The analogy presented most often by secularists is that addiction is like diabetes and a diabetic must take his/her insulin shot daily; therefore, someone with a “mental illness” or “disease of addiction” must also take his/her weekly “medicine” of therapy, daily self-help meetings, and regular psychotropic medications. Where is a shred of real hope in this worldly approach?
The world cannot offer any real solutions because it does not acknowledge sin or the forgiveness of sins through Christ Jesus alone. The world cannot offer the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to change the human heart! Philippians 2:13 speaks to this very power of the Holy Spirit: “for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” –The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (electronic ed.). Good News Publishers: Wheaton.
Stay tuned for the biblical approach…and it’s offer of hope!
-Mark (just “dumb enough” in the world’s eyes to believe God for real hope and power!)
